OUTDOOR FIREPLACES, FRAMELESS IN EVERY WAY

Flare builds frameless linear gas fireplaces for outdoor spaces, from residential patios and pool areas to restaurant and hotel terraces. The stainless steel firebox is certified for outdoor installation, and the frameless opening puts the flame, rather than a metal surround, at the center of the elevation.

Flare outdoor vent-free fireplaces are available in front-facing, see-through, left-corner, right-corner, and double-corner configurations, with lengths from 50″ up to 100″ and opening heights of 16″ or 24″ depending on the model.

Each Flare outdoor fireplace is designed with advanced features, including a 3D burner system for a fuller flame presentation, multi-color RGB LED lighting, wind guard options, storm door options, black reflective interior options, and approved fire glass media.

Outdoor Fireplace Planning Notes

Flare outdoor vent-free fireplaces are designed for outdoor use only in well-ventilated spaces. They are not designed for use inside a building, garage, home, or enclosed area. Outdoor fireplace planning should consider ventilation, wind direction, rain exposure, drainage, clearances, gas supply, electrical access, and service access.

For technical planning, always follow the Flare Outdoor Vent-Free Installation Manual, local code requirements, and the project-specific requirements from the architect, builder, installer, and authority having jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked Questions About Flare Outdoor Fireplaces

What outdoor fireplace styles does Flare offer?

Flare offers outdoor vent-free fireplaces in front-facing, see-through, left-corner, right-corner, and double-corner configurations.

What sizes are available for Flare Outdoor Fireplaces?

Flare outdoor vent-free fireplaces are available in lengths from 50″ up to 100″, with 16″ or 24″ opening heights depending on the model.

Are Flare Outdoor Fireplaces certified for outdoor use?

Yes. Flare Outdoor Vent-Free Fireplaces are design certified to ANSI Z21.97-2017 • CSA 2.41-2017 for Outdoor Gas Fireplaces and are rated for commercial and residential use when installed according to the Flare installation manual, rating plate, and local code requirements.

Can a Flare outdoor fireplace be installed inside a home or garage?

No. Flare Outdoor Fireplaces are for outdoor use only. They must be installed in a well-ventilated outdoor space and cannot be used inside a building, garage, home, or enclosed area.

Can logs be used in a Flare outdoor fireplace?

Flare outdoor fireplaces can be equipped with different media types, but Flare recommends using fire glass for outdoor fireplaces because ceramic logs, stones, or branches may break down faster when exposed to outdoor elements. Always use approved media and follow the Flare installation manual.

Can I install a TV above a Flare Outdoor Vent-Free Fireplace?

Yes, it may be possible, but the design must be planned carefully because vent-free fireplaces release significant heat from the opening. Flare recommends recessing the TV or using a large non-combustible mantel or heat-deflection detail to help move heat away from the TV. Install and operate the fireplace first, then test the temperature at the planned TV location before installing the TV.

Are Flare outdoor fireplaces ventless?

Yes. Flare outdoor fireplaces are ventless, also called vent-free, so no chimney, flue, or venting run is required. That makes them suitable for patios, rooftops, pool areas, and outdoor living spaces where running a vent would be impractical. Flare ventless outdoor gas fireplaces are design certified to ANSI Z21.97-2017 • CSA 2.41-2017 for Outdoor Gas Fireplaces and are for outdoor use only.

Can an outdoor gas fireplace go under a covered patio?

Often yes, but it depends how enclosed the space is. A roof with no more than two walls is permitted. A roof with three walls is permitted only when at least 30 percent of the perimeter remains permanently open, and openings that can be closed with panels, screens or shades do not count toward it. A fully enclosed space never qualifies, and the fireplace can never open into the inside of a house. Our outdoor gas fireplace planning guide covers the enclosure rules, clearances, drainage and ventilation in detail.

Are outdoor gas fireplaces worth it?

It depends how you plan to use the space. Against a wood-burning outdoor fireplace, a gas unit lights instantly, needs no wood storage, leaves no embers or ash to clear, and shuts off the moment you go inside. A vent-free outdoor model also avoids building a chimney or flue run, often the largest line item in an outdoor fireplace project. The trade-offs are a gas supply connection and a higher unit cost than a basic fire pit. Where the fireplace is a permanent architectural feature rather than an occasional novelty, the running convenience usually justifies it.

What is the best outdoor gas fireplace?

There is no single best model, because the right one is decided by the space rather than the brand. Four things narrow it down: the configuration (front-facing, see-through, or a corner view), the length and opening height the wall or enclosure can carry, whether the unit is design certified for outdoor use to ANSI Z21.97-2017 • CSA 2.41-2017, and whether it runs on the gas supply you have. Flare offers five outdoor configurations: front-facing, see-through, left-corner, right-corner and double-corner, from 50″ to 100″, with 16″ or 24″ opening heights, in natural gas or liquid propane.

What is the lifespan of an outdoor gas fireplace?

The fireplace body and burner are built from stainless steel to withstand long-term outdoor exposure, but overall service life still depends more on installation and site conditions than on the unit itself. Drainage, weather protection and correct clearances do most of the work. As an indication of expected life, Flare covers the firebox and burners under a Limited Lifetime warranty, ceramic and tempered glass for five years against thermal breakage, and electronic components including the gas valve, receiver, remote and LED controller for 18 months. Coverage excludes damage from improper installation or exposure to water and moisture, which is exactly why siting and drainage are worth getting right at design stage. Full terms are on the Flare warranty page.
